Green Fly Classes

United States

Scuds Fly and Tackle has merged with Green Fly Classes. I now will be catering towards fly fishing classes and guided fishing trips. Scuds in Morgan is no longer there if you would like to get in touch with me. Green Fly Classes is a fly fishing training and education service. I specialize in teaching river and pontoon boat instruction to novice and advanced fisherman. Green Fly Classes was created in response to not being able to find fly fishing instruction that was either personalized, quality, or affordable. It’s scary and little sickening to see such a beautiful journey be turned into a fancy pants, name branded, commercialized mysterious destination sport. What is “private water” anyway? What a joke! I’ve taken it upon myself to find as many ways possible to keep fly fishing affordable, accessible, and grass roots. I ask people that I instruct in my classes “what’s the difference between a guide and an instructor”? The answer is that a guide’s job is basically to get fish on the line, and a smile on your face. That’s it. An instructor’s job is to teach you how to do it on your own. And that’s what Green Fly Classes does, disseminates expert instruction to increase your skill set and build confidence. Every one has to start somewhere and I had the fortunate opportunity to start in Alaska. Yes, that’s me some 20 years ago with a nice 50+ King off the Kenai Peninsula. I have fond memories of my Grandfather teaching me how to cast on the side of my house a long time ago in Alaska. I also have wonderful memories of chasing just about every salmon in the State of Alaska during the runs, and turning my nose up at 28 inch Rainbow trout on a consistent basis. I moved down to the states to attend college, and started working on the Green River in Flaming Gorge as a part time job. The Green is where I learned how to become a professional trout fisherman. It’s one of the best dry fly rivers in all of the United States. There are those days when the sun is out, the water is crystal clear, and the fish are so selective that’s it’s really a challenge to catch a few fish. But that’s what I like, A challenge! Of course there are lots of days when it’s like shootin fish in a barrel too. Anybody can throw on a rapalla or bait and spin it out there…but fly fishing is a combination of your skills with nature, and it’s a lot of fun! I hope to get to know you in one of my classes and look forward to seeing your fish pictures. I fish many reservoirs every year within the Utah, Idaho, Wyoming and Nevada borders. Trout King reservoir has it - the biggest fish. Other reservoirs may have the numbers, but Trout King has big quality fish. Big! These fish are not only big, they are beautiful. Part of the resident population are a strain of Rainbow/Steelhead that I haven’t run into before and they are lookers for sure. - Dave, Clearfield, Utah 84015
